what are the results?

IMG_5212.JPG

My student, Chris, was 8 months into tattooing fake skin when he started my course. Only a few months in and 1/4 of the way through the Online Tattoo Course, he already saw great results (above). Within the first few weeks, he learned about machines and needles, while practicing drawing to understand his shadows.

We then work on your tattoo techniques with your new knowledge of machines and needles to create more professional looking tattoos.

The consistent work put in by Chris cannot be unnoticed, a good work ethic and frequent practice is necessary for the best results from this course, or any form of learning.

With his new portfolio, Chris has now earned himself an apprenticeship after a few months of working with me, where he'll get in person mentorship daily from his teachers. Here's what he had to say about the course.

2011

Found an apprenticeship but was left to self teach as my mentor was self taught and had no real experience to share, leaving me confused and frustrated. I wanted to do things the right way.

2014

Within 3 years, I networked, travelled to conventions and was later offered a spot at a world renowned studio. I won multiple awards and learned around the best artists.

2025

After living away and learning for a few years, I came home and opened my own studios, built teams of artists and apprenticed multiple artists into successful careers. Now, I teach beginners and self taught artists online.

1. Why learn at the buzz?

At The Buzz Academy, you're not just learning tattooing techniques; you're stepping into a community built on passion, expertise, and mentorship. Ché Crook, the founder of The Buzz Tattoo Studio & Academy, brings over a decade of hands-on tattooing experience combined with a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed in the industry.

From a rocky apprenticeship, to earning multiple awards, opening his owns studios and mentoring numerous apprentices to successful tattoo careers. What sets Ché apart as a teacher is his personal journey. Having faced the challenges of an incomplete apprenticeship, he understands the gaps in traditional tattoo education and has designed a program that fills those voids. His teaching is rooted in real-world experience, and is dedicated to his students' long term success.

Ché's unique approach includes:

  • Comprehensive Learning: From foundational skills to advanced techniques, Ché’s courses are tailored to meet the needs of early-career tattoo artists and those looking to refine their craft.

  • Passion for Teaching: Ché’s mission is to provide aspiring tattoo artists with the knowledge and tools he wished he had during his own apprenticeship.

  • Proven Success Stories: His mentorship has already transformed careers, like Jim Wildink, who trained under Ché from 2015 to 2018 and went on to thrive as a tattoo artist. And Chris Mijanos from Chicago, seeing results while only 1/4 of the way through our Online Tattoo Course.

By learning with Ché at The Buzz Academy, you're not just gaining skills—you're gaining a mentor who is genuinely invested in your growth and success.

You can join Che's free Skool community to share your work for feedback and take part in weekly challenges.

2. why not self teach?

While self-teaching might seem like a cost-effective and flexible option, it often comes with significant challenges and limitations, especially in a craft as intricate and technical as tattooing. Here’s why:

  1. Lack of Structure: Self-teaching can be overwhelming. Without a clear roadmap, it’s easy to miss critical foundational skills or waste time on techniques that don’t align with your style or professional standards.

  2. Trial and Error: Learning on your own often means making mistakes that could have been avoided with proper guidance. In tattooing, mistakes can be costly—not just in terms of materials but also in reputation.

  3. No Feedback Loop: When you teach yourself, you don’t have an expert to critique your work, help you refine your skills, or address your blind spots. Progress can be slow and frustrating without constructive feedback.

  4. Missed Industry Insights: Tattooing is more than just creating art; it’s about understanding client care, hygiene standards, and building a sustainable career. These are areas where mentors bring invaluable real-world knowledge.

Learning from an experienced mentor like Ché Crook eliminates these hurdles and sets you up for success. Ché brings over a decade of tattooing expertise combined with a teaching style that’s approachable, supportive, and tailored to your needs.

Here’s why mentorship with Ché is a game-changer:

  • Customized Guidance: Ché identifies your strengths and areas for improvement, offering personalized advice that accelerates your growth.

  • Proven Techniques: You’ll learn tried-and-tested methods that Ché has used in his own career, saving you years of trial and error.

  • Real-World Experience: Ché doesn’t just teach tattooing; he teaches you how to thrive in the industry, from client relationships to running a business.

3. How come it's hard to start Tattooing?

Learning how to tattoo is one of the most challenging skills to master because it’s not just about creating art— it’s about applying that art permanently on someone’s skin. The stakes are high, and the process requires a unique combination of technical skill, creativity, and professionalism. Here’s why it’s so difficult:

  1. High-Stakes Medium: Unlike drawing on paper, tattooing is permanent. Mistakes can’t be easily erased, which adds immense pressure and requires precision, confidence, and control.

  2. Technical Complexity: Tattooing involves mastering a range of tools, techniques, and styles, as well as understanding skin types, needle depths, and ink application.

  3. Hygiene and Safety Standards: A tattoo artist must adhere to strict hygiene protocols to ensure client safety, which isn’t something you can simply “figure out” on your own.

  4. Client Interaction: Tattooing is as much about building trust with clients and understanding their vision as it is about creating the design itself.

  5. Lack of Reliable Resources: While there’s plenty of information online, much of it is scattered or inaccurate, making it hard to know where to start or who to trust. Replace the frustration of guessing with a clear process of learning.

This is why finding a reliable mentor, like Ché Crook, is essential for anyone serious about tattooing. A mentor provides:

  • Hands-On Guidance: A mentor like Ché doesn’t just teach you the theory; he walks you through the process step by step, ensuring you develop skills the right way.

  • Industry Expertise: With years of experience, Ché has navigated the challenges of tattooing and can share insights that you won’t find in any online tutorial.

  • Accountability and Support: Learning on your own can feel isolating. A mentor keeps you motivated, answers your questions, and helps you overcome obstacles.

  • A Proven Path to Success: Ché’s mentorship has already helped artists build thriving careers. With Ché, you’re not just learning how to tattoo— you’re learning how to build a career.
